A new game is good. A squad you actually want to spend the evening with is better.

Alpha-Unit is calling in the crew for Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 4: multiplayer matches, DMZ deployments, good comms and the sort of chaos that gives everyone something to laugh about afterwards.

If you already own it, come find teammates. If you’re thinking about buying it, take a look at the independent coverage below first. There’s plenty to get excited about—especially DMZ—but your money deserves more than a trailer and a shouted “trust me”.

Multiplayer: bring the team, bring the craic

There’s a particular pleasure in playing with people who call out an enemy, help with the objective and stick around after a rough match. That’s the kind of evening we want to build at Alpha-Unit.

Whether you fancy Team Deathmatch, objective games or simply learning the maps together, tell us what you play and when you’re around. We’ll use Discord to find each other and organise sessions around the people available.

You don’t need a montage-worthy kill/death ratio to say hello. Bring a decent attitude, give your teammates a hand and enjoy yourself. The occasional spectacular disaster is practically community content.

DMZ: a reason to work together

DMZ is the extraction side of MW4: head out, pursue objectives, gather equipment and try to make it home. It’s a natural fit for a group that enjoys planning a run, adapting when things go sideways and celebrating the escape as much as the firefight.

Our invitation is simple: find a few Alpha-Unit teammates, agree on what you’re trying to achieve and go in together. New to extraction games? Say so. Learning with a squad is part of the fun.

Watch before you buy

Jackfrags — “Modern Warfare 4 DMZ is better than expected…”

This gameplay-led first-impressions video explores DMZ with Tomographic. Its description highlights more depth than expected and interesting story missions. It’s a useful look at the squad experience, rather than a claim that every part of MW4 is perfect.

Skyrroz — “I PLAYED MW4!!!”

An earlier hands-on preview covering campaign, multiplayer and DMZ after a studio visit. Use it for background and gameplay discussion; it was published in May, so it is not a review of the finished launch version. The video is from a French-language creator.

What the independent reviews actually say

TechRadar: Dashiell Wood’s 23 October review is strongly positive about the overall package, praising the campaign, multiplayer and DMZ. For anyone looking for a positive case for buying MW4, this is a useful starting point.

Windows Central: Cole Martin’s hands-on DMZ feature describes a much stronger experience than the earlier beta, with missions, progression and memorable squad encounters. This is specifically DMZ coverage, not a verdict on every mode.

A fair warning: multiplayer opinion isn’t unanimous. Radio Times praises the campaign and DMZ but criticises multiplayer. If competitive multiplayer is your only reason for buying, read that view as well and watch current gameplay before spending.

These are the reviewers’ opinions, not claims that Alpha-Unit has independently tested every mode. Early impressions can also change as updates arrive.

Is it worth picking up for Alpha-Unit nights?

There’s a convincing case if you want DMZ with friends and expect to spend time across the wider package. That combination gives us plenty of ways to play together. If you only want competitive multiplayer, the mixed reaction is a good reason to take a closer look first.

Check the current price, your platform’s requirements and exactly what your chosen edition includes. There’s no need to buy an expensive edition just to answer our call for teammates. Already have the game? You’ve got an even easier next step: come say hello.
