Winter Nights, Minecraft & Good Company — Alpha’s Servers Are Waking Up
Dark evenings, Discord chats and building something together. Alpha’s Minecraft servers are coming out of hibernation—first-timers and returning legends welcome. Just don’t grief the place.
There’s something about the winter evenings that makes Minecraft feel like exactly the right idea. It’s dark outside, you’ve got a drink beside you, your mates are in voice chat, and somebody has decided that tonight is the night to build a castle.
Meanwhile, you’re still trying to put a roof on your house. Beautiful stuff.
After a dormant spell, it’s time to kick Alpha’s Minecraft servers back to life. Once we’ve got them up and running again, you’re all welcome to come in, have a chat and build something together.
A welcome to our Danish crew
A lovely shout-out to our Danish brothers and sisters, with Minecraft being downloaded and installed for the very first time today. Fair play for giving it a go!
That first adventure is something special. Everything is new, you’re figuring things out as you go, and what starts as “I’ll just have a quick look” can turn into an entire evening disappearing down a hole. Sometimes literally.
If you’re starting from scratch, you’re in good company. You don’t need to know all the recipes or arrive with an architectural degree. Come in, ask questions and get stuck in. We all placed our first block somewhere.
Joshy, clouds and my first Minecraft memories
I still remember my first time—as much as I remember flying through the clouds, high as a kite after my back operation, with the bold and beautiful Joshy.
That was some introduction. Between recovering, the company and the game itself, it’s a memory that has properly stuck with me. Joshy, you absolute beauty.
That’s the thing about games like this. Years later, it isn’t necessarily the house or the tunnel you remember. It’s who you were with, what you were laughing about and the ridiculous evening that somehow became a story.
I’m sure we’ll all get back into it. A few familiar voices, a fresh bit of enthusiasm and somebody saying “come on, one more thing before we log off”—that’s usually all it takes.
A place to build, chat and switch off
The plan is to leave the servers open for people to play once they’re back up, so we can dip in when it suits, make a little progress and catch up with friends along the way.
Some nights we might tackle a shared project. Other nights you might want to work on your own corner of the world while chatting away in Discord. Both sound pretty good to me.
- Build together: a village, a ridiculous tower, a cosy cabin or whatever idea gets out of hand first.
- Help someone new: show them the basics, share a few supplies and give them a reason to come back.
- Explore with friends: head off somewhere and see what stories you bring home.
- Just have a chat: you don’t need a grand project to enjoy an evening with the crew.
First-timers, returning players and the “I haven’t touched this in years” crowd: you’re all welcome. There’s no pressure to keep up. It’s meant to be a bit of enjoyment.
One rule: don’t wreck somebody else’s hard work
Now, the important bit. Don’t take the piss with the trust you’re being given.
No griefing. Don’t smash up another person’s build, nick their supplies, set their place on fire or undo hours of their work because you think it’ll be funny. It’s a sick move, and it’s a quick way to ruin the evening for someone who came here to relax.
If it isn’t yours, ask before changing it. If you want to build a massive project beside somebody’s home, have a word first. And if you accidentally break something, own it and help put it right.
Have the craic. Look after the world. Look after each other. We want to leave the place open because we trust the people in it. Give us every reason to keep doing that.
Keep an eye on Discord
The servers aren’t being announced as live just yet—we’re bringing them back after their hibernation. Keep an eye on Alpha’s Discord for the go-ahead and the connection details, including which Minecraft edition and version you’ll need.
In the meantime, pop in and tell us you’re interested. Let us know if it’s your first time, if you’re returning after a break, or if you already have an outrageously ambitious build in mind.
Winter nights. Familiar voices. A few new friends. Let’s build something together.
See you in there,
Fly
